Wow this thread has been dead for a year.

Ryan, seeing you been off beer for a bit. I thought you might be interested in strange and unique ale.

Well I never thought I'd be resurrecting thread about beer, but here goes.

On the last episode that I listened to, can't remember the number but it was Reproducing Yetis, Ryan had a blood orange IPA from Freedom's Edge.  I wish to try this, because it sounds like it might teach me to like beer at last.  So, I efficiently suppressed any feelings of guilt over the food miles, and went to their website But it looks like you can't order their beer online, even though you can order merchandise, go figure.  How would a humble Aussie get a hold of some?

I could e-mail them about it, that would probably be more appropriate... but you guys like talking abut beer right?

I live in a state of the USA that will have you arrested if you ship alcohol in the mail.  I can be no help.

getting alcohol around/out of the united states is very tricky unless you have someone personally fly to where it is available and bring it back with them.  It can't be shipped by any of the primary mail carriers and its even hard for many breweries/distilleries to sell their beer anywhere except on-site, because of stupid laws in the state.
for example, I lived in Waco, Texas for awhile, where the (newly famous) Balcones distillery is. You can't buy bottles of their whisky from the distillery, and their distributer doesn't sell to any of the liquor stores in town (or when they do, its only a few bottles), so to get a whisky made within walking distance from where I lived, I would have had to drive two hours to Austin to buy it.  Beer is not quite so bad, but still a huge pain to transport in the USA.

you're probably better off going to a local microbrewery or a craft beer bar in your area, and asking them for recommendations. tell them right off the bat that you don't like beer, and if they aren't stuck-up beer snobs, they're usually pretty helpful. Who knows, they might even be able to get that blood orange IPA (although I'd suggest staying away from IPAs for an introduction to craft beer, they aren't usually very easy to like.)

OK, I had no idea things were so strict in the US.  I guess this is why my beer snob mate subscribes to a specialist importer...

There's a lot of artisan hipster micro-brewers where I live, I surely will be able to find something similar eventually.  And if not, artisan ciders are now becoming fashionable as well, so at least I have something to drink even if I continue to be a mutant who doesn't like beer ;)

It's OK to not like beer. It's gross.  :o

Wow, so I'm not the only one who made it through a whole engineering degree without being converted?

Nope! Had plenty of home-brewing friends tell me "It's an acquired taste, you'll get used to it."

But it's nasty, why should I get used to it?

Yeap, know what you mean.  So Often, my better half will be trying a new beer and thinking it's great, so he offers me a taste.
I have a sip and screw my face up.
