Are there any stories you'd like to hear us talk about?

I've heard the claim that 'eyes have evolved independently 14 times', but never any substantial detail.  I'm guessing all vertebrates have a single ocular origin, unless we're counting newts in multigenerational migration in and out of caves.

Yes, I think it's safe to say that all vertebrate eyes have a common origin.

that looks pretty rad.

i solve a lot of my research problems walking to work, actually.
when i'm really working hard, I figure out what i'm going to do when i walk in,
and then work all day until i hit a big serious block,
and then go home to bed.

Ha, at the moment I solve all my research problems by asking a woman in my lab named Tracey who seems to know absolutely everything.
At uni my cycle home from the library used to really help me consolidate what i'd learnt.

I also get a lot of science ideas when i'm sober around my friends. My friends who are off their faces. I'm pretty sure that if I ever do a PhD and get stuck for a thesis idea I just need to have a massive party where I refuse to drink...

I tweet, I tumbl, I read, I drink, and I write.

Not necessarily in that order, though.

I would also vote for the ant topic.
Admittedly  Im biased on this because it was done at my university and I attended the ecology101 lecture of the senior researcher. She gave a pretty good talk about the ants if I remember correctly.
