9/26/12: Calosoma scrutator
« on: September 26, 2012, 11:13:29 AM »
Calosoma scrutator, AKA the "caterpillar hunter" or "fiery searcher" is a big, shiny beetle. I found this dead one at work and took it home in a coffee cup so it wouldn't get squished, and looked in a book to figure out what it is. It eats caterpillars and can allegedly spray a bad smell at you if it is alive.
Its name comes from its habit of enthusiastically scrutating.
It is also in a heavy metal band called "Fiery Searcher" that is playing next Tuesday night at the Brass Rail.

Titanium Physicists has a pro-bee-analogy agenda. That's certainly no secret.

Ha, I didn't think that was actually a word in English, I just thought it sounded funny. I guess they do look around. Or, in other words, search. In a fiery kind of way.

I had a pretty good laugh at this.
